Our roving reporter Monica Hafer, in search of excitement and mayhem, wound in up San Diego for this year\'s Comic-Con. This year was the biggest turnout in its history, selling out all four days of the convention. Prepare to be delighted in the latest comics, games, and costumes that our girl could find and pictures of some of the festivities!
game: Garfield and his Nine Lives
review | 10/08/06 | Amanda Bateman
Garfield stars in his very own Game Boy Advance game, rescuing friends and eating junk food...even while he\'s sleeping. Much like the recent Garfield movies, there\'s really nothing to see here unless you have a five-year-old screaming for it. If you are hoping to satisfy a pre-gamer with a thing for grumpy cats, then Garfield and His Nine Lives might buy a few hours of quiet on the next big roadtrip. Check Amanda\'s review for details.

Last week saw the 2006 San Diego Comic Con, the biggest event for comic book fans in the USA, and an annual mecca for comic freaks and comic geeks from all over the world. In other words, it\'s our kind of place, and don\'t think for a minute that there\'s a big distance between comics and videogames. We sent our representative comics and games geek, Monica, to cover the show floor, and the first thing she brought back was first-hand coverage of the Bungie and Marvel meeting to discuss the forthcoming Halo comic series, illustrated by different artists, including more Halo from legendy illustrator, Moebius. game: Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel
review | 07/10/06 | Laurie Taylor
The graphic novel has earned itself a standing as an independent art form over the years, and is now moving into the digital realm. Following in the footsteps of the Silent Hill Experience, Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel comes to the PSP under the banner of a new medium. Except, instead of just telling a good story in classic graphic novel form, the developers felt obligated to include uninteresting and tedious gameplay elements into the presentation. The result is promising, but less than perfect. Graphic novel fans should be excited about the potential, but for now the rich promise of digital graphic novels on the PSP remains unrealized.
game: Superman Returns
preview | 05/20/06 | Matt James
Superman may be one of the top superheroes in the superheroing business, but in videogames he has a spotty record at best. However, EA and their Tiburon studio is set to return the Man of Steel to glory (and, coincidentally tie-in with the latest Superman film, which, you know, out to bode well, right?). With some definitely next-gen visuals, Superman looks pretty, but can he back up his sexy little spit curl with a solid game experience? Matt James takes a look at Superman returns, and manages to avoid making a single joke about Superman 64. Amazing! Get the full preview here.
game: The Silent Hill Experience
review | 04/26/06 | Laurie Taylor
Konami\'s Silent Hill has come to PSP, but that\'s a misleading statement. The Silent Hill EXPERIENCE has come to PSP, but apparently the experience doesn\'t include any actual game. Rather, The Silent Hill Experience is a UMD full of all the things we would expect to get for free as extras and unlockables in a AAA game title. It\'s got comics, video and music from the game, but it ultimately left our resident Silent Hill fan, Laurie, a bit cold. Get the full review here.

With more and more movies coming out of Hollywood based on videogames and comics, people are beginning to wonder why so few seem to translate well to the screen. Part of the problem is that there are business models in place that are prevent great adaptations that stay true to their original source material. Monica takes an insider\'s look at the relationship between movies, games and comics.

After nearly a year, Twoplayer Comic\'s original artist is leaving GamesFirst and moving on to other projects. Noah Kroese\'s distinctive artwork and sense of humor have helped define TP
comics as it exists today, and we wish him the best. Twoplayer will certainly feel his loss. Today\'s TP comic will be the last with Noah at the artistic reins, and the beginning of our search for an artist worthy of taking his place. Check out the final Twoplayer Comic by Noah Kroese, named after one of the Internet\'s most annoying aspects: Forum Boys. Best of luck, Noah.

We all have ideas for the next big thing, an idea for a game that everyone would love. The big difference between us and the rest of the world is that we can write about our ideas and entertain our delusions of \'having a real effect on the industry.\' To those ends, we present \"If They Were As Smart As We Think We Are,\" Matt and Jeremy\'s forum for sharing some of their hare-brained videogame concepts. We invite you to read and respond.

1UP.com has a good history of web
comics dedicated to videogames. It walks through all the major players, from current videogame comic and freedom-fighting Juggernaut, Penny Arcade, to foundational titles like PvP and 8-Bit Theater. These mighty three have spun off entire genres in a fledgling industry, and many have made their rise side by side with the indy gaming website scene. Of course, there\'s no mention of Twoplayer, which has been recognized by sites like Joystiq as not totally sucking. Nevertheless, it\'s a good read and if any of the
comics discussed are not on your webcomic radar, then you are really missing out. Check out the 1UP article here:

game: Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
review | 11/05/05 | Matt James
When done right, the synergy of comic book and videogame can fulfill the deepest desires of many a fanboy and fangirl. The latest comic game to get it right, Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, is a must-play for any fan of the Hulk comics, and is tight enough to reward anyone with even a passing interest. Utilizing an open gameplay and mission scheme, Ultimate Destruction satisfies with an engrossing Hulk storyline and a living-world Hulk experience. And it\'s amazing how satisfying it is to just break sh*t.
