Guitar Hero 2 Review
game: Guitar Hero 2
review | 04/29/07 | Chris Martin
Guitar Hero 2 for the Xbox 360 introduces ten new songs, updates the PS2 graphics, and even revises some old songs in a very complete package. More than just a port, this version is a truly great and smart rethinking of the PlayStation 2 version. To determine how much enjoyment you will get out of either the face-melting new Xbox 360 version (or the old PS2 version, for that matter), you must wrestle with one of the most soul-bending questions of the ages: To Rock, or not to Rock? For those about to Rock, we salute you.

Second Life Protest Turns Violent; Destroys the Indestructible
game: Second Life
news | 01/18/07 | Aaron Stanton
Occasionally, real-life politics and games meet one another in a way that doesn\'t involve blaming them for the ills of society. On the eve of Martin Luther King Jr.\'s day of honor, a protest in Second Life against a real-world political group nearly brought the servers to a standstill. After hours of battle, the building of the French political party Front National - located in a part of the game where players can\'t hurt each other - had ceased to exist, destroyed by either a technical glitch or a deliberate decision to pull the building. Luckily, Wagner James Au from New World Notes was there to write about it in detail, describing the interesting blend of the real and fantasy that belongs entirely to the art of video games.

Aaron's Xbox 360 MTV Special Impressions
Articles Archive | 05/12/05 | Aaron Stanton
The problem with having part of our editorial staff on the east coast and part on the west coast is that one half gets a 3 hour head start on TV specials. Shawn, based out of New York, picked up the MTV special a bit before those of us over here on the west coast did, and managed to get his thoughts up before we'd even had a chance to glimpse the brief flicker on the TV that we think must have been the MTV special “ it was too short and never focused on the 360 long enough for us to tell. Shawn jotted down his notes in the earlier post; now here are Aaron's thoughts on what Microsoft showed the world of their next generation game console.

Editorial: Notes Scribbled in the Dark While Watching a Really Long Xbox Commercial
Articles Archive | 05/12/05 | Shawn Rider
"Everybody here is in, obviously." Obviously. We haven't seen this kind of "drank the punch" vigor since Election 2004. In a move sure to annoy others much more than it annoys us (mainly because we don't get invited to the really good events anyway), Microsoft revealed the Xbox on MTV tonight. Shawn watched it, and while he did, he scribbled these notes.

EDITORIAL - The Medium is the Medium
| 01/01/00 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
NORTHBOUND, Greyhound--just past Preston, UT (or ID or somewhere). Disclaimers have a tendency to strongly resemble either whining or lying. Having said that, the notes I just realized I needed for this piece are locked in the luggage bin of this bus (somewhere beneath the surly cowboy a few seats in front of me) traveling at the same breakneck 35 or so mph we are\"plus or minus the shifting and crashing around it\'s undoubtedly doing, as our driver seems to drive worse when he hasn\'t had a cigarette for a while, and Logan was sixty or so miles ago.

EDITORIAL - Why You Should Pre-Order Your PS2 Now
| 01/01/00 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
As you are by now no doubt aware, the stateside release date for the PlayStation 2 has officially been announced as October 26, 2000 at an unexpectedly low (although I did win a bet on this one against Rick) $299. As you are also by now aware, Sony is not going to ship an unlimited number of these babies. While I can\'t seem to find my notes as to exactly how many units it was, I do recall shifting a bit uncomfortably in my chair and fighting off the urge to run to the nearest phone and preorder. And why? Because every damn PSX owner in the country is going to get one of these things (unless they are completely insane or financially strapped) as soon as they hit the shelves. If you saw any footage of the Japanese release, perhaps it reminded you of a business suit version of the Cabbage Patch riots of ?84\"mobs of drooling fanatics hopped up on barely concealed consumer rage and nearly bursting bladders, refusing to leave their space in line for any but the most dire of emergencies.
