Click to read.On Friday, July 21, 2006, Joe Quesada, Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics, announced that the Halo graphic novel, now available, will be followed in Summer 2007 with Halo Ongoing, a monthly comic using the Halo universe. The conference included executives and creative staff from the Halo game, Bungi, and Marvel. Of note among them was Moebius, who was drawing one of the stories in the current Halo graphic novel. When asked what qualities Marvel looked for when choosing video game properties, he said that they wanted to find projects which would be mutually beneficial to everyone involved. Besides Halo, Marvel is also working with Stephen King\'s Dark Tower series, and is looking for other possible projects for the future. Quesada said that he saw Halo as being much like G.I. Joe, as in the idea of a product bringing people into the comic world with a franchise that was very compelling to the general populous. Marvel will be announcing shortly the artists and writers who will be working on the project in 2007.

In an anecdotal moment to explain Halo\'s appeal, Quesada admitted that he is not really a gamer at this stage. He said that when he was a salesman for F.A.O. Schwartz, they got one of the first Nintendo systems in North America. When he took Legend of Zelda home, he got so hooked that he almost got fired for failing to come to work. Since then, he\'s curbed the impulse to game, but maintains an incredible interest in gaming and gaming properties. When the panel was asked what it was about the Halo universe that was so compelling, none of them had any problem expressing the lure of the game. They said that the breadth and depth of the universe kept them interested and provided almost unlimited options to explore. There is also a \"last stand\" quality to the stories, in that they always seem outnumbered and outgunned, but it is the ingenuity and strength of human spirit which gets them through. One of the Halo execs, in answer to the question of what was his favorite thing about the game, leaned into the mic like a space cowboy sauntering up to a showdown at high noon and said, \"Owning Noobs.\"

Both the Marvel and Halo panel members agreed that Bungi had been really great to work with, and allowed people to create quality art. One of the women from Bungi said that they had actually developed a list of \"dream collaborators\" that they wanted to work with, people who they had admired since their childhood. And amazingly enough, as they contacted each of the people on their list, they were amazed to find that everyone was excited to work with them on this project. What resulted is a phenomenal group of creative people working on the Halo graphic novel. And from everything Quesada has said, this looks to be a franchise we\'ll be seeing much more from in the future. However, although some of the devoted game fans tried to pump the panel for spoilers about Halo 3, they\'re still keeping everything else under wraps... for now.
