game: Too Human
preview | 07/18/08 | Chris Martin
This terribly cold, strenuous year has entered it\'s warming period. Twentysomethings venture to the park for volleyball or soccer. Some throw frisbees or discs, if you prefer the neutral term. Also, the demo for Too Human has hit Live Marketplace. We suggest you go download it and play it. It\'s a game with as much controversy as variety, as little tact as subtlety.
game: Lunar Knights
review | 05/10/07 | Amanda Bateman
In Lunar Knights, you take control of two different heroes, Lucian and Aaron, one powered by the sun, one powered by the moon, in an attempt to free the world from the vampiric legion. If you are familiar with the Vampire Hunter (Baktai GBA) series, you\'re already familiar with Lunar Knights. It is, however, Kojima Productions\' first foray on the Nintendo DS, and it\'s one worth a look.

Zap Dramatic makes a unique series of games built around negotiating. In games such as \"The Raise\" and \"The Mediator,\" players must navigate through a complex social web, made more realistic by a touch of unpredictability and predictable limitations. Dialogue-oriented games are occasionally popular (Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney, for example), but often suffer from the good/bad, light side/dark side, oversimplification of games like Fable or Knights of the Old Republic. Laurie takes a look at some of the Zap Dramatic offerings in this group review.
game: Tao?s Adventure: Curse of the Demon Seal
review | 04/24/06 | George Holomshek
Nintendo DS owners aren\'t going to sneeze at a good RPG for the system. But is it any coincidence that Tao\'s Adventure: Curse of the Demon Seal could be abbreviated to \"Curse of the DS?\" Not only is Tao\'s Adventure bad enough to warrant the title, but it also speaks to the trouble the DS has had in generating good RPGs (Lunar anyone?). Featuring tons of menus, wonky controls, and too many of the typical RPG tropes we expect, it doesn\'t take a game reviewer to tell you to approach this title with caution. But we went and got a game reviewer to tell you that, except with more words. We\'re like that.
game: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
feature | 04/21/06 | Shawn Rider
Oblivion is a big game -- HUGE. And although many of its inhabitants have interesting problems, not many become long-lasting friends. And virtually none become companions (except that annoying fan guy). You can\'t even have a pet in Oblivion, although that lady in Chorral just flaunts her two super-awesome wolves. Fortunately, thanks to an odd glitch in the game that prevents him from completing the Knights of the White Stallion quest, Shawn has figured out how to keep himself a mighty fine Orc wife, Mazoga. (That is, if you count bride-knapping as \"marriage.\") Get the full story here.
game: Lunar Magic
news | 11/02/05 | Aaron Stanton
Is there room on a gaming site for news that\'s not exactly new? We think so. Sometimes things that are old are still cool, even if they\'ve slumped a bit below the radar in recent years. The N64 modding community is an excellent example; modders online have been updating old N64 ROMS for years, including replacing old textures with high resolution images, cell-shaded graphics, and other nifty treats. Around for a while or not, Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still cool in our book, especially in high rez. In the same vein, if you\'re looking for something to drain away your time, check out Lunar Magic, a level editor for the SuperNES title Super Mario World. Yeah, it\'s been around for a while, but if you\'ve never seen it, it\'s new to you.
game: Zelda III: The Triforce Saga
news | 10/28/05 | Aaron Stanton
Zelda II was the last official Zelda title released on the NES in the United States, but there\'s speculation that maybe a third title existed, or was at least under development before the series was transferred to the SuperNES. Recently, a gamer claimed to have found a Legend of Zelda III NES cartridge at a flea market containing an unfinished build of the third Zelda installment. What unfolded was a series of events that include eBay listings, accusations of fraud, and an official denial of involvement from none other than the Canadian development company Silicon Knights. The cartridge ultimately sold for $3000 CAD (about $2500 USD). Or did it? We take a look at the time-line of events.
game: Too Human
news | 10/05/05 | Shawn Rider
Eternal Darkness developer, Silicon Knights, is working on a first-party game for Microsoft Game Studios. Too Human is an \"epic action game\" (read: the first of a planned trilogy) in which players assume the role of the Cybernetic God Baldur, who must defend humanity from a group of monstrous war machines who don\'t play well with others. Powered by Unreal Engine 3, this one is already looking good, and with the reputation Silicon Knights has for creating great, story-driven action games, we have very high hopes for this title. Keep an eye out for Too Human to release in Fall 2006.

Matt\'s back with a whole new edition of the GF! Mailbag. Why don\'t we have any cheats on the site? Do graphics really matter to gamers? Or are we just spouting off about nothing? And we finally answer the question that\'s been on gamers\' minds for over two years now: \"How do I install Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?\" Witness the amazing array of reader mail we\'ve gotten since, well, last week!
game: Lunar: Dragon Song
preview | 07/21/05 | George Holomshek
Fourth quarter 2005 is looking strong for the Nintendo DS, primarily with a queue of upcoming releases currently unmatched in the handheld market. Along with top name games like Mario Kart and Animal Crossing (not to mention Nintendogs, which is driving sales of the DS through the roof in Japan), DS owners have games like Lunar: Dragon Song to look forward to. Take a moment to read about what to expect from the first pure-blood RPG to hit the system.
game: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
review | 02/24/05 |
Knights of the Old Republic II finds itself in the difficult position of trying to improve on one of the best games in recent years. The result is a game built on tried and true game dynamics, a darker emphasis than the original, and a new story that takes you from Star Wars planet to Star Wars planet, but doesn't break ground and drops you at the end. A blast to play, but missing a little bit of that special magic that was captured in the first, KotoRII might not rock your world. David has the inside scoop.
game: LucasArts Focus: Star Wars: Empire at War
preview | 02/14/05 | Blaine Krumpe
For some time, Star Wars games have had a perpetual hold on video game fans looking to experience more of the epic universe. The games themselves have traditionally been a mixed bag, with some good, some bad, and a few that radiated the dark side every time you passed the display case. The latest games in the pipeline, though, look to be full of the good stuff, from already released games like Knights of the Old Republic to the upcoming Republic Commando. One of those games is Empire at War, a real time strategy with all the stuff to be a hit. Check out Blaine's preview for a glimpse of things to come.

game: Jade Empire
preview | 07/10/04 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
The wizards at Bioware that brought us Knights of the Old Republic are at it again. Jade Empire is an action RPG set in mythological China, and so far it seems like it has all the right stuff. Like KOTR, Jade Empire looks to offer a strong, story driven RPG experience and a hearty dose of action. Our guy Eric Bodrero got his hands on it at E3 and has good things to say about it. Click here for the full preview.
game: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
review | 01/11/04 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
I consider Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic to be one of the greatest games ever created and one of the most important, intriguing texts of this young millennium. Copious amounts of dialogue conspire into well crafted conversations that carry real consequences in both gameplay and story. The Xbox masterpiece makes its way to the PC, and this one is not to be missed just make sure to download the patch. But click here before you do, and read the full review.
