The Australian PlayStation 3 Starter Pack that contains Motorstorm and Resistance: Fall of Man will expire officially on August 31st.
The Starter Pack will include the current 60 GB PLAYSTATION?3 console, two wireless SIXAXIS? controllers, and a copy of Resistance: Fall Of Man? and MotorStorm?, both million sellers globally and the number one and two top selling PS3 games to date in Australia. The PLAYSTATION?3 Starter Pack will have a recommended retail price of AU$999.95 and NZ$1199.95.

Another attempt by yet another state of the union to pass an unconstitutional bill prohibiting the sale of \'violent\' videogames to minors has been squashed.
The bill, which would have imposed a $1000 dollar fine on any retailer if they sold a violent video game to minors, has before now seen preliminary injunction in late 2005, otherwise it would have gone into effect January 1, 2006. Since then the bill was pending investigation...

Introversion\'s Darwinia has scored plenty of good press over the past year. With a cult following from its first demo release, the game has gone on to win at the Independent Games Festival. The success has earned Darwinia a download-to-play release on Valve\'s Steam service and, most recently, a boxed retail version published by Cinemaware Marquee, whose stated goal is to bring some of the best overlooked games to retail. Sony Online Entertainment announced today that they would offer the new Sony Station Access program. For a single monthly subscription of $21.99 gamers can access several popular MMOs including Everquest, The Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, and Planetside. In all, over 10 titles in five active online worlds are included in the Station Access membership, and some titles, such as Everquest II, have been upgraded to allow more character slots. The Station Access Collection will be sold at retail for $39.99 and will offer five games for PC and a free 30-day trial of the Station Access subscription. Read more here.

OpenXbox360 has posted a link to a YouTube video that supposedly shows a regular, retail version of the Xbox 360 playing an unsigned, burned copy of Perfect Dark Zero by using a hack that involved running some program on the PSP. No details about the hack or methods involved are known so far, and the video could easily be a fake. But it\'s a slow news day here on Xmas Eve, and it\'s a curious video. Check out the video for yourself, as well as the post on OpenXbox360, and keep an eye on this as the story develops.

Microsoft has announced a new perks card for members of their Xbox Live Gold service. Gold level members now qualify for a free \"Diamond\" card, which is an actual, real gamercard you can carry in your pocket. Now you can show off your Xbox geekiness even when you\'re away from your console. And wait, it doesn\'t stop there: The Diamond card qualifies holders for special deals and discounts at an array of retailers. If you\'re a Gold level member of Xbox Live, sign yourself up.

Hillary Clinton and Joseph Lieberman have announced plans to introduce legislation called the Family Entertainment Protection Act (FEPA). The short story about the bill is that it would legislate the practices which are voluntary for retailers to follow under current ESRB guidelines, making it illegal to sell Mature rated games to minors, creating a formal avenue for consumer complaints, and initiating an annual review and \"secret-shopper\" survey of retailer compliance. The Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) is not happy with the planned FEPA, and they have issued a statement against the bill today.

The day of November 22nd was quiet compared to the evening of the day before; the Xbox 360 launch was virtually over within hours of 12:01. If you didn\'t have an Xbox 360 by then, chances of getting one had grown slim. Retail outlets that didn\'t take preorders were the kings, the last refuge of gamers that didn\'t buy early or were bumped off the list by supply shortages. As the Xbox 360 begins to show up around the country in retail kiosks gamers are frothing for a chance to get some hands-on time with the system. To assist you in finding a retail location with an Xbox 360 kiosk, someone has created a Frapper map that charts the locations of retail 360 kiosks by plugging into Google maps. Users can add waypoints, comments and images. There is a severe lack of imagery, though, so gamerss with phonecams, get ye to the local megalomart. And then post them up on the Xbox 360 Retail Kiosks Map.

Don\'t be surprised if there\'s a line in the electronics section the next time you visit your local Wal-Mart. The retail chain has been scoring some street points by being the first retail company to demo Microsoft\'s Xbox 360, hands-on and playable by the customer. Apparently, playable Xbox 360 demo units have been springing up across the United States. A quick call to our local Wal-Mart confirmed that an Xbox 360 was already sitting, pristine and nice, behind a glass display and a line of people all hurting their necks looking up at the screen. \"We set ours up yesterday,\" was the comment we got from the clerk when we called, \"and it\'s beautiful.\"

The Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association has released an official statement against a new California law signed into law yesterday by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who claims the law will \"require that violent video games be clearly labeled and not be sold to children under 18 years old.\" That\'s not a bad thing; in fact, games are already clearly labelled and rated for both age and content. And therein lies the problem: California\'s law does not recognize the ratings of the ESRB, and instead imposes a vague set of guidelines which retailers will be legally bound to. Needless to say, this puts retailers in a precarious position: In some way, every title must be separately re-rated in California, but the specifics of how that would work are not there. Gamestop completed its buyout of EB Games this week, making it the single largest game retailer in the country, as reported by Game Daily Biz. The merger creates a company with 4200 retail outlets worldwide, and expected annual revenues of $5 billion. Analysts expect the merger to lead to an increase in the used game market, which has recently been attacked by game publisher organizations as being detrimental to their business. The merger may well mean lower trade-in prices for gamers, too, which might in turn lead to an increase in traffic for online game trading sites as gamers flock to more worthwhile deals. And the news can only be seen as an indication that pre-release reservations and package bundles will enjoy unbridled growth. That could be problematic for gamers expecting to preorder an already very pricey PlayStation 3.
