Student Declared Witch and Burned for Making In-Game Map of High School.
editorial | 05/02/07 | Aaron Stanton
When a student at Clements High School in Texas made a video game mod based on the layout of his local high school, he probably didn\'t expect the reaction it eventually received. Two months after the map was created, the Virginia Tech shootings happened, and authorities took the students map as a threat. Not only was he removed from the campus grounds and sent to an alternative school, he\'s been bared from participating in graduation. Yet no one seems to believe that he actually represented a threat to the community - in that no one seems convinced he was on the verge of picking up a gun and shooting someone. The only problem is that he did something that - some people, at least - connect to events like Virginia Tech. In other words, it didn\'t matter that he wasn\'t really a witch, merely that he looked enough like one to be punished.

news | 11/11/05 | Shawn Rider
The release of the Google Maps API has led to all kinds of fun experiments, from the Xbox 360 Kiosk maps to Google Map overlays for the NYC subway system and walking tours of people\'s favorite places. One industrious gamer, Teh Diplomat, has written a version of Risk played on Google Map overlays. The game is still being fine-tuned, but for the most part it\'s there and it works. Playing on the satellite map of the world is pretty fun, and Risk is, well, a classic. Check it out.

Tracking Xbox 360 Kiosks
news | 10/22/05 | Shawn Rider
As the Xbox 360 begins to show up around the country in retail kiosks gamers are frothing for a chance to get some hands-on time with the system. To assist you in finding a retail location with an Xbox 360 kiosk, someone has created a Frapper map that charts the locations of retail 360 kiosks by plugging into Google maps. Users can add waypoints, comments and images. There is a severe lack of imagery, though, so gamerss with phonecams, get ye to the local megalomart. And then post them up on the Xbox 360 Retail Kiosks Map.

Bethesda Releases Screenshots of Oblivion's Level Editor
game: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
news | 09/12/05 | Aaron Stanton
While some of us can\'t wait to get our hands on the official release of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, others can\'t wait to get their hands on the map and quest maker. The PC version of the title will ship with a level editor that allows fans of the series to create their own stories and levels independent of the original storyline, just as Elder Scrolls III did. Bethesda and 2K Games have released screenshots of the upcoming editor, and the shots should be of interest to gamers with a creative streak and a desire to make worlds instead of just play in them.

Developers, Hug a Modder
Articles Archive | 07/08/05 | Aaron Stanton
Timesplitters Future Perfect has the best Xbox Live feature of any game on the market, and it has nothing to do with how well the voice chat works or whether or not you can play capture the castle. It's the ability for players to build and upload their own maps for download on Xbox Live. Aaron takes a moment to call on the next generation of gaming to go a step beyond that, and figure out how to integrate player created content into the console world, starting with Ghost Recon 3.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - An Interview with Bethesda Softworks
game: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - An Interview with Bethesda Softworks
preview | 03/09/05 | Chris Martin
Elder Scrolls III was one of the most expansive and impressive games every to hit the Xbox or PC, or any game system, for that matter. With a gigantic world, almost never-ending gameplay, and a game dynamic that changed depending on what type of character you had, it set a new standard for game design. Its sequel, appearing on the PC and Xbox NEXT, looks to make Elder Scrolls III appear about as wide open as your bedroom closet, offering an even larger map, more complicated non-player characters, individual faces for each NPC, and a whole host of other improvements. Plus, it\'s going to be one of the most breathtaking experiences you\'ve ever had on a game console; it looks awesome. Our man Chris has a chance to sit down with Bethesda Softworks\' producer Gavin Carter to ask a few questions about the upcoming game. The answers left us awe-inspired.

Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow
game: Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow
review | 09/17/04 | Aaron Stanton
There are few publishers that can claim to equal Ubisoft in terms of supporting their Xbox games on LIVE. Between downloadable content and semi-sequel game releases for the fans that can't get enough, Ubisoft has provided a string of extra content for pretty much every Clancy game they've released. Now, there's Black Arrow, basically the old Rainbow Six 3 with new maps, split screen, and some tweaked gameplay. But is it good? Not as good as you would hope. Read about it here.
