review | 10/08/07 | Chris Martin
You\'ve been watching The Ticker, you\'ve seen the reviews, you\'ve been playing the game. Halo 3 has had a phenomenal launch, selling over 2 million copies in the first night of release. We\'ve taken the good Master Chief into the heart of the ark, killed hundreds of thousands of Covenant, and rescued Cortana from the clutches of the Gravemind. Now here\'s our review of the most anticipated videogame of 2007. Is Halo 3 still the reason to own an Xbox 360?

There have been rumors aplenty since the explosive launch of Halo 3. The rumors pointed to the an \"insider\" who said Bungie and Microsoft will be parting ways, and that, as we just received word, is true. Bungie Studios will become an independents developer, although Microsoft will retain the rights to the Halo franchise, and Bungie will still be focusing mainly on Microsoft\'s platform. Quote Harold Ryan, Studio head for Bungie, \"We will continue to develop with our primary focus on Microsoft\'s platforms; we greatly value our mutually prosperous relationship with our publisher, Microsoft Game Studios, and we look forward to continuing that affiliation through \'Halo\' and beyond.\"

game: Gears of War
editorial | 09/20/07 | Chris Martin
Gears of War is considered one of the best shooters on the Xbox 360, scratch that, one of the best shooters period. But But Epic\'s gruesome stop-and-popper is still second best on Xbox Live losing to a last generation Halo 2. It\'s a great game, sure, but it has problems. Serious problems. Find out why Chris would be so quick to toss GoW to the wind, perhaps you sympathize.

I intentionally avoided, up until now, posting news about Halo 3 - pics notwithstanding - because, frankly, I don\'t care to learn about the levels or the neat gizmos the good Master Chief will be using this time around, ahead of time. They, to me, are spoilers. I am at the point where I just want to play the game for myself and be surprised. I am breaking my rule now because the latest news about Halo 3 steps beyond that broad line of \"developer hype.\" Today Bungie officially confirmed that Halo 3 will feature 4 player Co-op play over Xbox Live and System Link. It\'s that kind of important news that just needs to be boldface.

Last week saw the 2006 San Diego Comic Con, the biggest event for comic book fans in the USA, and an annual mecca for comic freaks and comic geeks from all over the world. In other words, it\'s our kind of place, and don\'t think for a minute that there\'s a big distance between comics and videogames. We sent our representative comics and games geek, Monica, to cover the show floor, and the first thing she brought back was first-hand coverage of the Bungie and Marvel meeting to discuss the forthcoming Halo comic series, illustrated by different artists, including more Halo from legendy illustrator, Moebius. In an announcement sure to get gamers everywhere all worked up, Microsoft announced at the X05 Amsterdam expo that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh (creators of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy and the upcoming King Kong) will be Executive Producers on the upcoming Halo movie. The news also means that Academy Award winning New Zealand effects house, Weta Digital, will also be involved in the movie, which is another great sign. It looks like Halo might just set the bar a little higher for the old game-to-film adaptation, just as it did for the console-based FPS and again for console-based online multiplayer.

In case you\'ve been living under a rock for the past two weeks, you know that Halo 2 is out. (And in case you have a Gamecube and PC under that rock, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Half-Life 2 are also out.) Everyone knows that Halo 2 is pretty much
