Another Great Platformer Based on a Cartoon: Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp
game: Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp
review | 07/21/06 | Laurie Taylor
Ami and Yumi are back in Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp, fresh from D3 Publisher, whose lineup this year includes several noteworthy titles. For the younger set, The Genie and the Amp is pretty much right on: A cool franchise is done justice with good production and solid game design. This won\'t popularize the Puffy AmiYumi franchise with the hardcore gaming demographic, but it will be a hit on the playground. Read Laurie\'s review for the details.

Hands on with The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
game: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
preview | 05/13/06 | George Holomshek
Twilight Princess might be the star of the show, but the DS Zelda title Phantom Hourglass is still worth a look. Pursuing the cartoon-Link style of Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass fully exploits the DS touch-screen. Players lead Link around by tapping the screen and making a small fairy appear. Link follows this fairy to wherever you want him to go. Sounds wacky? Yep. But George says it\'s actually not bad. Check it out.

Naruto: Clash of Ninja Review
game: Naruto: Clash of Ninja
review | 05/08/06 | George Holomshek
D3 Publisher and developer, Eighting, have done good work with the Naruto Gamecube title, Naruto: Clash of the Ninja. For a franchise-based kids\' game, Clash of the Ninja offers surprisingly enjoyable fighting action, especially in the multiplayer, and nice visuals in the 2D-fighter tradition. This is one cartoon-based title that parents don\'t have to be afraid to buy their children. George has the full story here.

Naruto: Ninja Council Review
game: Shonen Jump?s Naruto: Ninja Council
review | 05/08/06 | RJ Brooks
The Naruto franchise gives us the old one-two punch with a Gamecube title and this Game Boy Advance game, Naruto: Ninja Council. Featuring bright, anime-styled graphics and traditionally-based 2D platforming and brawling action, Ninja Council has a lot of promise. But does all that promise pay off? Or is this an example of the OTHER kind of cartoon franchise-based game (the kind you shouldn\'t play)? Get Robert\'s full review here to find out.

Outpost Kaloki X Delivers Cartoony Strategy to XBLA
game: Outpost Kaloki X
review | 03/04/06 | Tristan Mayshark
Xbox Live Arcade has put some cool games on the Xbox 360, and has very much helped 360 owners cope with the rather slow trickle of 360 titles to hit the market. Some of these XBLA games are original, some are greatest hits, and some are games that had made an impression on PC gamers as an indy release and now find a second audience on the Xbox. A great example of the last type of game is Outpost Kaloki X. Outpost Kaloki X is a mid-depth strategy experience that XBox 360 owners can try for free and own for a low price. If you\'re looking for decent strategy and a clever sense of humor in your lemonade stand games, then Kaloki could be just the thing. Get Tristan\'s full review right here.

Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi: Kaznapped
game: Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi: Kaznapped
review | 12/09/05 | Laurie Taylor
Bring the super J-Pop awesomeness of Puffy Ami Yumi anywhere you want with Altron\'s Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi game, Kaznapped! Puffy Ami Yumi is a great cartoon, and their poppy, rockin\' music is some of our favorite stuff. So can the game be as good as the \'toon? Laurie takes Kaznapped! for a spin and brings back the verdict.

DOFUS Review
game: DOFUS
review | 11/14/05 | Chris Galbraith
Every once in awhile, a game comes along with solid gameplay and a lot to appreciate, but a very unfortunate name. I\'m remembering Seaman most specifically here. Although maybe if you say it with a native French accent, there is lesspotential for confustion. Afterall it\'s only a small twist of syllable pronounciation that separates DOFUS from a decidedly less attractive moniker. Regardless, DOFUS has a lot to offer: Tactics style RPG gameplay mixed with MMO elements all packaged in an atractive, cartoony package. With an international following and a development team dedicated to iterative improvements, DOFUS is a promising indy game project. Check out Chris Galbraith\'s review, available here.

Happy Tree Friends: Winter Break Review
game: Happy Tree Friends: Winter Break
review | 10/19/05 | George Holomshek
When I was in high school, all the cool girls had this saying: \"That\'s so cute I just want to throw it against a wall.\" You could modify what you wanted to do to the cute thing: eat it, squish it, set it on fire. The idea was that cuteness inspires violent feelings, and it made us giggle with glee. Such is the premise of Happy Tree Friends: Cute and violent. Really violent. Like, Jack Thompson going to town in GTA violent--it kind of gets creepy sometimes. Check out George\'s review here.

Nintendo DS Trojan: Nintendophiles Get Bricks Too
news | 10/11/05 | Shawn Rider
In a shocking turn of events (and just plain weird event in general), news comes to us through several sources of a Nintendo DS Trojan. The malicious program is known as either \"hentai loader\", \"r0mloader.zip\", or \"taihen.zip\", and is designed to \'brick\' your Nintendo DS. The program promises to load either pirated game roms or hentai (a Japanese term for pornographic comics and cartoons) on your DS when loaded using a flash rom device, which makes it possible to run homebrew applications and games on the Nintendo DS.

Namco Opens Tales of Legendia Website
game: Tales of Legendia
news | 09/15/05 | Aaron Stanton
Namco has cut the ribbon on the teaser website for Tales of Legendia, the latest in the popular Tales series of RPGs. The Tales games have become renowned over the years for their stylized cartoon graphics, their young, well-developed characters, and the games\' real-time battle system. The website has basic information on the story, the characters, and the environments that you can expect to be adventuring through when the game releases come 2006. The last time we saw the Tales series, it was on the Nintendo GameCube in Tales of Symphonia, one of the best RPGs to ever appear on the system. Or on any system. Tales of Legendia will be released in winter of 2006 for the PS2.

Dragonball Z: Sagas is out now for the big three consoles, and, well, it\'s another Dragonball game. Unfortunately, we\'ve seen power levels much higher than this in the past, and, well, Blaine will break the news to you as gently as possible in his review.

Next Year. Swear to God.
how-to | 07/03/05 | Aaron Stanton
Funny that we\'d choose the Sunday before the 4th of July to take a bit more of a political slant on a gaming comic, but sometimes ideas come, and after a bit of thought I realized that there could be no better time to print a politically-tinged game cartoon than during the celebration of our country, of freedom, and of the ideals that make America great. Plus, it gives us an opportunity to make an old joke about Duke Nukem Forever, wherever it may be. This week\'s twoplayer game comic is called, Next Year. Swear to God.

twoplayer comic: Meet Xbox 2 (Part 3)
comic | 05/01/05 | Aaron Stanton
We\'re two weeks from E3 2005. That sounds like a lot of fun, but it\'s really just a lot of work for us in the industry, and if there\'s one thing we at GF! generally dislike, it\'s work. It also means that we only have 12 days until Microsoft unveils their next-generation game console, so we figure there\'s still time for Meet Xbox 2 (Part 3) before we move on to poking fun at some other companies and games in the industry. For a little insight into what goes on behind the comics, including a little bit about the daily twoplayer comics we\'ll be doing over E3, be sure to read about it here (after checking out this weeks cartoon, of course). Remember, you can always find the latest twoplayer comics at http://comics.gamesfirst.com.
