We've seen a lot of different disc cleaning system come down the pipeline over the years, but most of them are not very appealing. Either systems are designed for video stores, and look like minibar refridgerators, or they require some kind of gunk slathered all over the disc. There are handcranked cleaning systems and special cloths or lotions, but these are also generally too much for our game-addled brains to deal with. Exactly how fast and long do I turn this thing? And what happens when the abrasive runs out in the dry systems?
Enter the Motorized Automax Disc Repair System: This snazzy little unit is like a toaster for scuffed discs of all kinds. The unit has a slot on top, into which one simply drops a disc. The flywheel whirrs to life and buffs up the disc, using a patented flexible spoke design to insure even pressure throughout the process.
In our E3 demos, we were impressed with the use of this little machine. It's quiet, and quick, and it does the trick. Depending on how deep the scratches in your disc are, you might have to run it a couple times, but the very nice part is that it is so easy to use.
The Motorized Automax Disc Repair System runs on six AA batteries, so it can easily be stored away with your media library, and GameDr also sells replacement flywheels, giving the unit much more longevity. Each flywheel is expected to last for about 50 discs.
The Motorized Automax Disc Repair System should be available this summer, and is expected to go for a MSRP of $39.99, and a handcranked model will be available for a suggested $29.99.
