Last Spring US District Court Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Sr. determined that videogames do not qualify as "speech" and are therefore not protected under the First Amendment. The case was brought before Judge Limbaugh by the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA) and St. Louis videogame retailers and arcade owners who were upset about an ordinance passed by the St. Louis City Council regulating violent and mature videogames. In the court's ruling, Judge Limbaugh wrote that there is "no conveyance of ideas, expressions, or anything else that could possibly amount to speech. The court finds that video games have more in common with board games and sports than they do with motion pictures."

Signed, sealed, and delivered, Microsoft has confirmed today that they have purchased mega-hit software developers, Rare, Ltd. Rare will create titles exclusive to the Xbox, including a sequel to Perfect Dark, which we are all very happy about. The first Rare title to hit the Xbox will be Kameo, due Spring 2003. Yahoo! has built a lot of things in the past. Beginning as a list of websites circulated through email and newsgroups, it could be said that Yahoo! is a good portion of the reason the World Wide Web took off the way it did we wouldn't be surfing around so much if we had to rely on JoeBob's List of Kickass Links to get the job done. The company has always been on the cutting edge; from their unique ad campaigns to their development of community-oriented online spaces, they have done a lot to enhance our experience of the Web and to bring new users online.

Bam! Entertainment, headed up by former Sega leader Bernie Stolar, claims the honor of being the first publisher to release a title developed through the Microsoft Incubator Program. Chase: Hollywood Stunt Driver is the title, and it looks much better than that other stunt driving game that came out. Plus, it\'s developed by the only African dev house making games for the Xbox. That\'s a bit of trivia if we ever heard it. Click here.

While Nintendo has made it official that they have gotten rid of their 49% share in Rare, LTD, creators of Donkey Kong, Perfect Dark, Star Fox, etc., Microsoft has yet to confirm details stated by Nintendo of America that MS has scooped up the London-based development house. This is big news and means franchises like Perfect Dark and Conker may find a home on the Xbox. Click for more.

The Tokyo Game Show started yesterday, and already there have been some major bombs dropped. Topping the list today is the announcement, complete with screenshots, of Blizzard\'s latest foray into the console market, StarCraft: Ghost. Featuring a new style of play than the older StarCraft titles, SC:G will make it\'s way to multiple console platforms and be co-published in Japan with Capcom. Click here for details.
