PoPoLoCrois Review
game: PoPoLoCrois
review | 12/20/05 | Shawn Rider
PoPoLoCrois has been a popular game series in Japan for a decade now, even spawning an animated TV series, but the series has never seen action in North America. Agetec\'s latest incarnation of PoPoLoCrois for the PSP is a revamped combination of the first two games in the series, originally released on PSOne, plus some additional original content. Featuring very nice animated cutscenes, and a super-kawaii art style, PoPoLoCrois is likely to satisfy any gamers looking for a classic RPG experience on-the-go. Check Shawn\'s review for more.

Space Hack Review
game: Space Hack
review | 12/18/05 | Sean Hilliard
Is Earth destined for overpopulation and possible extinction? Should we pin our hopes for survival in the future on someone with the name \"Hack\"? Or would we be better off just praying for nuclear armageddon? Space Hack, developed by Rebelmind and published by Meridian 4 is a budget-priced indy game. That makes it automatically a cool thing in the twisted minds of grumpy GF! editors. But is it worth the $20 price of admission? Check in with Sean for his review.

Infected Review
game: Infected
review | 12/16/05 | Laurie Taylor
Majesco\'s Infected has been a highly anticipated PSP title around the GF! offices: It has a great features list that includes zombies (big bonus) and online multiplayer (bigger bonus) that allows you to \"infect\" other players with your personalized virus if you can beat them online (mindblowingly cool bonus). But features lists can only tell you so much. After a long time anticipating this title, we were excited to get our grubby little zombie-slaying hands on it. Laurie came up with a complete review that let\'s you know whether Infected is the next big thing or just a biohazard.

Degrees in Game Design Help Gamers and Nongamers
editorial | 12/08/05 | Laurie Taylor
Ted Rueter\'s editorial trashing game studies and game design programs in colleges and universities has really gotten the dander up around the GF! offices. One of our resident gaming academics, Laurie Taylor, who is finishing her PhD in English studying games, responds to Rueter\'s criticisms in the best possible way: refutation and redirection. Laurie points out the wonderfully sensible fact that if people want less violent, better games, then they had better study games in order to find out how to create those new experiences.

Degrees in Game Design Threaten American Colleges?
editorial | 12/07/05 | Shawn Rider
Jack Thompson jokes wearing thin? We understand. After all the coverage Thompson has gotten, we\'re pretty bored with his ranting. But the game world needs a new hysterical voice to mock and deride, which is why we are happy to present Ted Rueter, Assistant Professor of Political Science at DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana. Professor Rueter has written an editorial in College News against colleges adopting game design courses and degrees of study, which, he says, \"kidnap American education.\" Needless to say, we disagree.

Painkiller Headed for Xbox
game: Painkiller: Hell Wars
preview | 12/06/05 | Tristan Mayshark
Painkiller is headed from the PC to the Xbox next January, and it has survived the transition nearly unscathed. This is good for Xbox owners who have not yet made the jump to the 360, as well as anyone looking for a nice diversion during the Winter doldrums of 2006. Painkiller: Hell Wars puts players into a fast and furious FPS carnage fest, and Tristan has the hands-on experience to compare this to the cult hit released last year for PC.

Xbox 360 Core System: More Hub for Your Media Dollar
game: Xbox 360
feature | 12/05/05 | Shawn Rider
It might be heresy, but let\'s consider for a moment the Xbox 360 as a media hub: The gaming features are \"extras\" and the media features are primary. We want to use the Xbox 360 mainly to stream music, images and video from the home computer. How does the Xbox 360 stack up to other media hubs like the D-Link DSM-320 or the Phillips Streamium? Shawn takes a look at some of the key reasons why the $299 Xbox 360 Core System is a good choice for users who might be more interested in media than videogames.

A Follow-up: How Much Will Your Xbox Be Worth In 4 Days
game: Xbox 360
feature | 12/03/05 | Aaron Stanton
The Xbox 360 has been disappearing off store shelves, both in reality and online where the shelves are much less tangible. In in article we posted last week, we pointed out that eBay\'s Xbox 360 listings have dropped nearly 3,000 units a day, and we predicted that - if trends continued - eBay would be sold out by December 1st. Well, it\'s now December 3rd, and the question is... did they? Are prices on the rise again? Will Microsoft\'s claim of impending shipments manage to help reduce the online price gouging we\'re experiencing moving into Christmas?

NHL 2K6 Review
game: NHL 2K6
review | 12/01/05 | Jeremy Kauffman
Hockey has been through some hard times, but we\'re finally enjoying a year back on the ice. Also returning to the arena is 2K Sports\' franchise installment, NHL 2K6. NHL 2K6 makes its way onto the Xbox 360 with a graphical polish and some additions to gameplay. Is this the must own hockey game for the next generation? And can the enhancements made for the 360 version make it worth the 360 price tag? Jeremy has the full review here.

VSDA Reacts to Clinton/Lieberman Bill
news | 11/30/05 | Shawn Rider
Hillary Clinton and Joseph Lieberman have announced plans to introduce legislation called the Family Entertainment Protection Act (FEPA). The short story about the bill is that it would legislate the practices which are voluntary for retailers to follow under current ESRB guidelines, making it illegal to sell Mature rated games to minors, creating a formal avenue for consumer complaints, and initiating an annual review and \"secret-shopper\" survey of retailer compliance. The Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) is not happy with the planned FEPA, and they have issued a statement against the bill today.

How Much Will Your 360 Be Worth In 4 Days?
game: Xbox 360
news | 11/27/05 | Aaron Stanton
By November 23rd, 2005 - the day after its launch - the Xbox 360 was selling on eBay for over $2000. Then the price dropped as more system owners listed their 360 in an attempt to get a share of the market. But will prices go back up again? eBay listed 28,000 units on the 23rd, but that number has decreased by nearly 3,000 units a day, down to only 13,500 at the time of this writing. At this rate, eBay will be 360-less in 4.6 days, or December 1st. When everyone is sold out, even eBay, how much will your system be worth?

The Meta-Gaming Experience of Xbox 360
game: Xbox 360
feature | 11/24/05 | Shawn Rider
The Xbox 360 brings a lot to the table: Fancy new graphics. Fancy new games. Fancy new controller. But we already had pretty nice graphics. And we\'ve always had fun games. Controllers come and go, plus we can usually find third-party controllers that will work, too. So what\'s next-gen about the Xbox 360? It\'s the meta-gaming experience. It\'s not that the 360 really changes the game (although it does that, too). What\'s really cool about the 360 is that it changes how we PLAY the game. And that\'s an exciting thing.
