1Up.com editor Luke Smith recently called Square Enix to task on a press embargo they attempted to impose for the Japanese release of Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. The embargo laid out guidelines about what the press could and couldn\'t say regarding the storyline of the already released Valkyrie Profile 2, including which characters and locations were safe to talk about. Of course, you can\'t embargo publicly available information, and Smith called them on it, opening Enix to a public lashing in the forums. Here\'s to 1Up\'s editors for having the guts to talk about it, and here\'s a sympathetic shake of the head to Square Enix PR. They\'ve got to be slapping themselves on the head right now.

Nintendo has (sort of) spilled the beans about the Wii price and their system launch plans in a recent fiscal year 2006 projection report. Nintendo has stated that the Wii system will not exceed $250 in America, or ?25,000 in Japan. They expect to ship six million units for the launch window, and a total of 17 million units during the first year of the Wii\'s life. These numbers are worldwide, and Nintendo has committed to a worldwide simultaneous launch. Get more details in our report.

Heading into the Spring season, rumblings are growing that Sony won\'t be able to hit their announced PS3 release date of \"Spring 2006.\" Next-Gen.biz is reporting that delays in finalizing the Blu-Ray drive could force Sony to push back the PS3\'s release. GameSpot is also reporting that potential supply problems could make it difficult for Sony to mass produce the drive. Both articles quote similar sources, both claim that Sony has acknowledged the potential for delays. It\'s our suspicion that both reports are based on the same data, subject to varying types of interpretation, but either way you read it makes you wonder about the accuracy Sony\'s original release window.

Contrary to comments made by Sony Vice President Phil Harrison in November of 2005, Playstation Magazine is reporting that Sony Entertainment is busy at work creating an online service designed to rival Xbox Live. This is good news for Sony fans that were concerned the PS3 might carry over the PS2\'s continuing online strategy... which means none. Sony has repeatedly committed itself to taking the PS3 online, but has released little information about how they plan on doing that. Assuming Phil Harrison wasn\'t lying in November, we can only assume that the Playstation\'s online system will still be mostly up to developers, not Sony itself. Sony, of course, won\'t comment on rumors.

InfinityMods.com claims to have a 360 modchip in hand, and will most likely have it available for purchase within 2 weeks. But what do they really mean by that? Turns out, the statement on their front page is somewhat misleading, since another line, deeper into their website, says, \"Preorders to be accepted within approx 2 weeks.\" So the question isn\'t whether or not there is an Xbox 360 chip, but whether or not you\'d be wise to throw in your money on a preorder for a chip you know nothing about. We take a look at all the information we have (which is admittedly very little) and attempt to make an educated guess about the legitimacy of this claim. Does InfinityMods really have a 360 chip?

Hot on Xbox Live this week is a free demo of Fight Night Round 3, EA\'s highly anticipated boxing title. Fight Night Round 3 has gotten a lot of press lately as a PS3 launch title, and the demos EA have shown us are incredible. So how does the Xbox 360 version compare to the teasers we\'ve seen for PS3? The Movies has disappointed a lot of people by being a great sim game, but a less than flexible Machinima tool. The sandbox mode, instead of being an unlimited playground for creative use, is limited in some respects by what you\'ve unlocked in the campaign mode. In an attempt to highlight the fan community\'s use of their game as a way to express themselves, Activision is bringing attention to one fan created movie called, \"The French Democracy.\" And they\'ve chosen well. Retelling the events of the French riots in October of 2005, it\'s easily one of the most interesting examples of using The Movies as a creative tool we\'ve seen.

NCSoft\'s promising new entry into an admittedly crowded MMORPG market may pave some new ground and bulldoze a few mountains along the way. Auto Assault is a vehicle-based MMORPG that puts you into a bleak future landscape dominated by greasemonkey aliens with high-powered weapons. \'Tis the season, and we\'ve got to admit that it has been a season full of hardship, which has created plenty of opportunities to put our best feet forward. Gamers have rallied to help raise money for recent natural disasters, but we always need to keep in mind that we still need to provide consistent support for charitable activites that don\'t necessarily get nightly news coverage. One such good cause is the Child\'s Play Foundation, created by Gabe and Tycho from Penny Arcade. Child\'s Play helps provide needed entertaining diversions for children\'s hospitals, and we\'re glad that Laurie took some time out to write about this very worthy cause. Find out how you can bring some joy to the world in your own little way.
