game: Need for Speed: Most Wanted
review | 11/25/05 | Matt James
There are a few major racing games out for the Xbox 360, but Matt James is stoked to be playing Need For Speed: Most Wanted. It\'s not the simulation experience that Project Gotham offers, which, for some gamers, is a very good thing. Take your driving skillz to the pavement against outlaw racers, avoiding cops and whipping through dynamic environments that include weather and time effects. It\'s a lot of fun, and we\'ve got the write-up right here.

The Xbox 360 brings a lot to the table: Fancy new graphics. Fancy new games. Fancy new controller. But we already had pretty nice graphics. And we\'ve always had fun games. Controllers come and go, plus we can usually find third-party controllers that will work, too. So what\'s next-gen about the Xbox 360? It\'s the meta-gaming experience. It\'s not that the 360 really changes the game (although it does that, too). What\'s really cool about the 360 is that it changes how we PLAY the game. And that\'s an exciting thing.

Should you be worried about the Xbox 360 being defective? Are they dropping like flies? According to online forums, Xbox 360s seem to be reporting errors like mad, but don\'t be too quick to go off telling your friends about the death of the 360. The words \"recall\" shouldn\'t slip out your lips just yet. In short, don\'t panic; chances are that error rates are skewed by the hardcore demographic of early adopters eager to share their 360 experiences.

The day of November 22nd was quiet compared to the evening of the day before; the Xbox 360 launch was virtually over within hours of 12:01. If you didn\'t have an Xbox 360 by then, chances of getting one had grown slim. Retail outlets that didn\'t take preorders were the kings, the last refuge of gamers that didn\'t buy early or were bumped off the list by supply shortages. We took a moment to drop by a store or two to chat with the faithful during the Xbox 360 launch event.

review | 11/23/05 | Jeremy Kauffman
Joanna Dark finally makes her return on the Xbox 360 in the long awaited prequel, Perfect Dark Zero. Joanna is younger, hipper and has a few new tricks up her sleeve, but she also has a serious sophomore hill to climb: Perfect Dark was one of the genre-defining console FPS games on the N64 and gained a dedicated following. And in the new generation, comparisons to Halo are inevitable. Can PDZ manage to satisfy both the old school N64 fans and those expecting a next-generation marvel? Read and see.

game: WavBoard EV1
news | 11/21/05 | Shawn Rider
In the previous generation, having an Xbox or PlayStation 2 in the trunk and little seven inch monitors in your headrests was the epitome of bling. But in the NEXT generation, the console and the display are a given. The really pimpin\' vehicles need online multiplayer, which is what Omniwav Mobile is offering with their WavBoard EV1, a mobile broadband router that works on both Verizon and Sprint networks in the US.

The Xbox is amazing for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is a whole raft of new multimedia capabilities. Now all media playback is handled by the system, which means you can overlay your custom soundtrack on any game you\'d like. Connect to other PCs on your home network, or to portable devices including PSP and iPod, and you can stream music right into your games. And if you have a PC with Windows Media Center Edition 2005, then the Xbox 360 becomes the hub of your media life: live television, recorded shows, and playback of videos from your PC are just some of the features in the new Xbox 360.

game: Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
review | 11/16/05 | Jeremy Kauffman
Tony Hawk\'s American Wasteland marks the third incarnation of the immensely popular series. Is it a worthy successor to THPS and THUG? Well, do BMX bikes and the French sport of freestyle walking, aka Le Parkour, turn you on? They should. And does a seamless recreation of Los Angeles help? It might. And what about online multiplayer for Xbox owners? It\'s about time. Veteran skate punk, Jeremy, put thumb to controller to give you this review.

The Xbox 360 is only days away from making its way into your home (if you\'re lucky), and the development community is collectively holding their breaths. In the last minutes before the first reviews begin showing up for games on Microsoft\'s new system, there\'s just a little bit of time for developers to say a word or two about their games before everyone gets a go at them. We take a moment to talk with Indie Built\'s Aaron Connors, Amped 3\'s Story Director, about one of the 360\'s first sports titles.
