The Simpsons Game: Best. Simpsons Game. Ever.
game: The Simpsons Game
review | 04/06/08 | Shawn Rider
The Simpsons are a perennial videogame topic. Many of the games created in the franchise are utterly forgettable. (Anyone up for a round of Simpsons Wrestling? Didn\'t think so...) But there have been a few well-done Simpsons games: Simpsons Hit and Run (a GTA clone) and The Simpsons Road Rage (a Crazy Taxi clone) were both enjoyable. The Simpsons Game isn\'t a direct rip-off of any particular game. It sticks to a platform/action approach and uses the whole world of videogames for its satirical fodder. The result is a Simpsons game that may be slightly less polished in terms of gameplay but is easily the game that feels most like a real Simpsons episode. Check out our review for more.

Bungie Goes Independent, Microsoft Retains Halo
news | 10/05/07 | Chris Martin
There have been rumors aplenty since the explosive launch of Halo 3. The rumors pointed to the an \"insider\" who said Bungie and Microsoft will be parting ways, and that, as we just received word, is true. Bungie Studios will become an independents developer, although Microsoft will retain the rights to the Halo franchise, and Bungie will still be focusing mainly on Microsoft\'s platform. Quote Harold Ryan, Studio head for Bungie, \"We will continue to develop with our primary focus on Microsoft\'s platforms; we greatly value our mutually prosperous relationship with our publisher, Microsoft Game Studios, and we look forward to continuing that affiliation through \'Halo\' and beyond.\"

Top 20 Things We Want in the Dead Rising Sequel
game: Dead Rising 2
editorial | 08/23/07 | Chris Martin
It\'s officially unofficial according to Capcom reps. But you know we\'ll probably see a Dead Rising sequel some time in the near future. Dead Rising sold over a million copies worldwide and became one of the staple buys for adopters of the Xbox 360. It was an excellent survival horror game with some great humor. The sandbox environment, multiple endings, and various side quests gave it longevity. Basically, we know it\'s coming on one platform or another. Not if but when it gets announced, here are the top 20 features we would like to see in the sequel.

game: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
news | 03/16/07 | Chris Martin
One of the greatest 2D platformers ever created and certainly the best Castlevania game yet, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night will be hitting Xbox Live Arcade next Wednesday (March 21). Blending a memorable storyline and iconic characters (you play as Dracula\'s son, Alucard, fer crissakes!), RPG elements, and a long (read: MASSIVE) game, SOTN is going to be a huge release for Xbox Live Arcade.

Another Great Platformer Based on a Cartoon: Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp
game: Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp
review | 07/21/06 | Laurie Taylor
Ami and Yumi are back in Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp, fresh from D3 Publisher, whose lineup this year includes several noteworthy titles. For the younger set, The Genie and the Amp is pretty much right on: A cool franchise is done justice with good production and solid game design. This won\'t popularize the Puffy AmiYumi franchise with the hardcore gaming demographic, but it will be a hit on the playground. Read Laurie\'s review for the details.

Spore: He's Got the Whole World in His Game
game: Spore
preview | 05/17/06 | Blaine Krumpe
Will Wright\'s Spore is a hot topic. Due for any platform that will run it at some point in the indeterminate future (you know how these uber-game projects go...), Spore offers, literally, the whole universe in a game. Begin as a jelly little protozoa and work your way through the state of nature, early tribes, civilized urban life, and finally interstellar exploration and mayhem-making. There are a hundred things to love about Spore, and Blaine runs down some of them in this preview.

The Future of Xbox Live Arcade: Anywhere Means Mobile
game: Xbox Live
feature | 05/14/06 | Shawn Rider
Xbox Live Anywhere is propelling Microsoft\'s multiplayer gaming community into a whole new realm, bringing it cross-platform in all sorts of cool ways. One of the major new features of the Anywhere service will be a much expanded Xbox Live Arcade, which will offer games on almost every mobile phone and PDA platform. Bringing the reliability, not to mention the try-before-you-buy mentality, of Xbox Live to the mobile gaming experience could be just the thing to get us to take cell phones seriously as a gaming platform. Naruto: Ninja Council Review
game: Shonen Jump?s Naruto: Ninja Council
review | 05/08/06 | RJ Brooks
The Naruto franchise gives us the old one-two punch with a Gamecube title and this Game Boy Advance game, Naruto: Ninja Council. Featuring bright, anime-styled graphics and traditionally-based 2D platforming and brawling action, Ninja Council has a lot of promise. But does all that promise pay off? Or is this an example of the OTHER kind of cartoon franchise-based game (the kind you shouldn\'t play)? Get Robert\'s full review here to find out.

Ice Age 2: The Meltdown
game: Ice Age 2: The Meltdown
review | 04/03/06 | Laurie Taylor
Ice Age 2: The Meltdown is the movie tie-in for the major motion picture of the same name. It\'s got cuteness and some personality, but in general it fails in pretty much all the ways that counts: It\'s probably too short, too simple and too repetitive for all but the youngest of children. Read a full consideration of Ice Age 2: The Meltdown in Laurie\'s review.

Super Princess Peach
game: Super Princess Peach
review | 03/19/06 | Laurie Taylor
Finally, the Princess has come into her own: Super Princess Peach marks the first time longtime Mario world fave, Princess Peach, has played the lead role in her own platformer. Incorporating the touch screen and the microphone found on the Nintendo DS, Super Princess Peach offers up a great spin on classic Mario-style gaming, with an excellent level of quality. It might be a bit easy for the hardcore, but for retro fans, new gamers, and anyone looking for a hip girly game, Super Princess Peach is a must-play. Get the full details in Laurie\'s review.

Astro Boy: Two Legends Converge
game: Astro Boy
review | 02/25/06 | RJ Brooks
Astro Boy has been praised by reviewers since its release in 2003. Another gem from Treasure, Astro Boy proves there is still some enjoyment to find in the 2D action gaming arena. A shooter/platformer in the vein of Gunstar Heroes, Astro Boy brings Osamu Tezuka\'s world reknowned character to life on the Game Boy Advance. We rarely get Astro Boy releases in the US, which is another testament to just how good this game is. Check out the conclusion to Robert\'s six-part retrospective here. Fittingly, Robert looks at how the legendary Treasure and the legendary Tezuka combine to create a GBA title that should be in every gamer\'s library.
